Finally Friday!

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but this week has gone by so slow. Maybe it was the fact that my birthday celebration was on a Tuesday, which made the rest of the week seem like it should’ve been a weekend. Who knows? At least I’m only a few hours away from a well-deserved 3-day weekend!

I have no general theme today except to catch you up on what’s been happening this week.

Football is Here!

Tomorrow is the first Gator game of the season and I’m so stoked! Last year I was so busy with starting a new job and settling into a new apartment (twice) that I hardly had time for any festivities. This year, I’m not missing a thing.

Casual Fridays in Gainesville on a game weekend mean everyone is rocking their orange and blue gear.

I’m also really excited for NFL starting next week. If you had asked me what I thought about pro football last year, I probably would’ve muttered obscenities about not being able to watch anything on Sundays. This year, however, I’m all revved up for it to start.

Why, you ask?

Because of fantasy football. Duh. In all seriousness, I, Olga, have my own fantasy team. Cray cray, right?

Fun fact: In high school, I got the nickname Starz because I spun fire poi. Hence, the team name.

Towards the end of last year’s season, I got really into watching the games because I started to understand how fantasy worked and wanted Troy’s players to do well. I actually got pretty competitive about it, and told myself that next year I’d have my own team.

Well, here we are a year later, and I know the only way for me to get into this season and not b*tch and moan about football is to root for my own fantasy team. I’m a competitive person, and this just seems like a great way to learn about the sport and actually enjoy Sundays for the next 6 months.

My league’s draft is scheduled for Sunday at 5pm and I think I have a decent strategy too. I’m going to pick as many players as I can that Troy had last year that aren’t injured or not playing. Genius, right? Troy doesn’t seem too pleased about this.

 

Fitness Things

Considering that it was my birthday week and I had a great excuse to be lazy, I actually got some good workouts in. I finally made it to the gym on Wednesday to cross-train since I’ve been running so much. I started out with 3 rounds of Tabata workouts, followed by one mile on the treadmill, and finished off with 3 more Tabata rounds.

I also completed my longest plank yet at 2:50!

After the #plankaday police came after me, I was fired up to knock out a good one. I didn’t reach my goal of 3 minutes, but I have a huge sense of accomplishment after getting so far!

I have one more day left in Week 4 of Couch to 5K, so tomorrow I’m planning a 4-mile distance run. I’m a little nervous because I’ve never ran that far, but I’ll have ENERGYbits in the morning to hopefully help me succeed.

 

Health Things

ENERGYbits. What’s that? They’re these little energy, endurance, and focus miracle tabs made from chlorella and spirulina algae. I haven’t tried them yet, but the folks at ENERGYbits were kind enough to send me a sample, so I’ll write all about them and how well they work as soon as I try them out!

I’m actually incredibly excited to try these because I’m not much of a caffeine drinker, and sugary sports drinks and such tend to not sit well with me. These are natural and caffeine free, and promise to be gentle on the tummy.

Since I’m always on the lookout for healthy (and cheap) snacks to help me power through my day, I snagged a bag of Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame at Publix earlier this week, and I’m really surprised at how great they ended up being.

I never tried dried edamame before, but the label really got me interested. There are 14 grams of protein per 1/4 cup, 8 grams of fiber, and practically no sodium or fat! The fact that they’re delicious and only $1.50 doesn’t hurt either. I know I’ll be munching on these and other healthy snacks all weekend.

What are your big Labor Day plans? Do you take advantage of 3-day weekends to travel or do you like to stay in and relax?

I don’t have any big plans for a change. Normally, I go see my family on 3-day weekends, but this time I plan to sit at home, relax, and catch up on reading, cleaning, and laying out at the pool.

    WOOO go gators! I really like those dried edamame things. They’re perfect for salads!
