Amazing Arms & Back

How sad are you that the Olympics are over? Those two weeks went by so fast, and thanks to Cox promising “full events” on OnDemand and delivering 3-minute highlights of only the American teams, I missed way too much! The only good thing that came from the Olympics ending was the Spice Girls reunion. It amazes me that after over a decade, I could still sing along with every single word. This weekend was super relaxing and laid back, with lots of catching up on sleep and TV show recordings, and an afternoon of crafts. I ran out of workout ... Read More »

Insanity Update: Fit Test 2

I’ve officially stuck with Insanity for two weeks! Technically, it’s been 3 weeks, but I’ve done two weeks worth of workouts. This is probably the longest I’ve followed a program, mainly because I’m actually seeing results and not getting bored. The first step of Insanity is taking a fit test, where you do as many reps as possible of 8 different exercises for one minute each. You write down your results and take the test every two weeks to track your progress. I was supposed to have already been on Week 3, but Whitney’s visit messed up all my workout ... Read More »

Training For My First Race

I finally decided I’m going to run a 5K. I’m going to stop talking about, pre-register, and actually do it. I can’t tell you how many races I “was supposed to” run before, until deciding at the last minute I was too out of shape or not training far enough in advance to be able to run. That’s why I’m going to whip out the Visa, cough up the $30, and stop making excuses. I’m pre-registering for the Gainesville Beer Run 5K on September 28th. What made me so motivated to run in this race? Well, there’s beer involved, for ... Read More »

3-Day Weekend

What a hectic weekend this was! I can’t believe yesterday was my first day off for non-medical reasons in a year. I’m glad I got to spend it floating down a river and eating BBQ with my boyfriend and two best friends.   I have so many recipes and photos to post, but I’ll try to stick to the most important things.   Chase Went to a New Home On Saturday, Chase went to his usual adoption day at PetSmart, where he found his new foster home. We felt really bad keeping him and Trina cooped up in our townhouse ... Read More »

Using My Blog for Good

Happy Friday! This weekend is super exciting for me because my best friend Whitney is coming into town Saturday and I have Monday off, so it’s a much-needed mini vacation for me! Before I get ahead of myself, first things first. This is a very important weekend for the pit bull rescue I work with, Phoenix Animal Rescue. They’re in the running to win $1000 from Pet Food Direct and need YOUR help to win 1st place. I ask you to take 2 minutes today to skip over one link on Pinterest, or to not read the rest of my ... Cleanse Fail & Cardio Win

Day 1 of the 2-Day Cleanse went well, for the most part. Day 2, not so much. To give myself a little credit, this is the second time I’m doing it, and the first time I stuck with it all the way. Yesterday started out great with breakfast, lunch and my two allotted snacks. After work, I went to the gym and could barely get through Insanity without feeling dizzy or seeing stars. I rescind what I said yesterday about being able to do the cleanse and sticking to your normal workout routine. If your normal routine is something as ... Read More »

Smoothies, Cantinas & Exercise Balls!

It’s only 2:30 and it’s already been an eventful day of ups and downs. This morning I could barely wake up since I got such terrible sleep last night. I’ve had this pain in my left shoulder, mid-trapezius area for a few months that comes and goes. I always chalked it up to sitting improperly at work, but last night it came and stayed all night.  I finally crawled out of bed with no time to squeeze in a workout, even though I promised myself I’d make up for not doing anything yesterday. Since I didn’t have time to make ... Read More »

My Archenemy, The Pullup

Only one more day till Friday! Sadly, this rain is trying to thwart my weekend plans, and all I wanted to do was find a nice, cool body of water to swim in. I’ve been trying to swim at least once a week, but the pools around here are feeling more and more like bathwater every day. It’s like swimming laps in your own sweat. -.- Swimming is one of the most efficient ways I can think of to get cardio in and improve my upper body strength, especially my shoulders and back. I used to say I didn’t want ... Read More »

How To: 300 Abs, The Sequel

I’m already sore and beat from Insanity and I’ve only been doing it for two days! I can already tell it’s going to be an intense series and I can’t wait to see my body in 60 days. That’s all I’ll say about Insanity, since I’m sure you’ll be bored hearing about it for the next two months. I did, however, use some of the moves I learned yesterday to create the next ab routine in the 300 Reps for Perfect Abs series. This one is more of a circuit and utilizes a lot more cardio moves, as opposed to ... Read More »

I Survived Insanity Day 1

Wow! I had the most intense workout today that I’ve had in a long time. I did Day 1 of Shaun T’s Insanity workout, followed by an intense 12-minute Crossfit WOD I found on BlondePonytail.com, modified for my gym. Day 1 of Insanity is a fitness test. I did 8 exercises, as many reps in good form as possible for one minute, followed by one minute of rest. I’m supposed to take the fitness test every 2 weeks to gauge my progress, and I definitely didn’t expect it to feel like a whole workout. I encourage you to take the fit ... Read More »
