Fit and Free Friday

…because you know us bloggers and our alliteration… Happy Friday! Every day this week has been kind of a Friday for me, so it’s pretty strange to be excited about the weekend. All this time off is relaxing, but I have idle hands and I feel like there’s so much I should be doing. I heard a great quote from one of the trainers at LA Fitness a few days ago: Eat for who you want to be. Drink for who you are. The first part is self-explanatory. Eat the type of foods you would be eating if you were ... Read More »

Wen vs Hair One vs L’Oreal: The Great No-Poo Debate

Wen Hair One

Hey everyone! I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that the sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates found in lathering shampoos are harmful to your health. Shampoos with sulfates and parabens can also leave your hair dry, damaged, and stripped of its natural oils and moisture. That’s why many savvy and health-conscious consumers have been switching to non-lathering (no-poo) and low-foaming (low-poo) hair cleansers. I’ve wanted to write about the no-poo hair care trend for a while now, and I’ve finally tried enough products to give my well-rounded opinion on the topic. I present to you: Wen vs Hair One vs ... What I’ve Been Up To

Wow! It’s been almost a week since I last posted. I haven’t taken this long of a hiatus since I began blogging. Lots of typing, not so many pictures in this one. Please bear with me. 🙂 First, and most importantly, Troy moved down here and got a job at LA Fitness. I’m so excited that he’s working at the club I spend so much time at already. It’s pretty awesome dating someone who works at a gym because we get to spend so much more time together. Whether he’s working and I’m working out, or we’re both working out, ... Read More »

WIAW: 2-Day Cleanse and Supplements

If you took the Don’t Be A Turkey challenge, congratulations! You made it! I got through the 2 day cleanse with only a teeny bitty bit of cheating. I ate some Wasa crackers with my lunches both days since I’ve been so sick and needed the extra nutrients. The 2 day cleanse definitely works as promised with helping you feel lighter and more energized. I woke up this morning surprisingly deflated and feeling less bloated and heavy than I have since before Thanksgiving. For those of you that took the challenge, how did you do? Did it help you feel ... Read More »

DeadX Deadlift Shinguard

I hope you all had a great weekend! I’m finally getting back into a routine and starting to make time for fitness and blogging. It’s been harder to adjust to the new city and new job than I expected, and unfortunately my blog has suffered the most. But I’m getting there, so thank you for sticking with me! I’ve been spending a lot of time at LA Fitness lately, which is awesome and so convenient. It’s probably ¼ mile from my house, and I live on the side of town where gyms don’t get packed at 5:30pm on weekdays. I’ve ... Read More »

Altamonte is Fitness Found

Dear FitFluential, I totally got my title from you. Or, as we like to say in the blogger community, I was inspired. In all seriousness, Altamonte Springs is a health and fitness mecca. In my last post, I said there were at least a dozen gyms around here. In reality, it’s probably much more. Between all the Groupons and Living Socials offering amazing daily deals on any type of exercise you could imagine, from TRX to stand up paddleboarding, and the health food stores and vitamin shops on every corner, it has to be impossible to stay UNhealthy living here. It’s ... Read More »

Playing Catch-Up

Hey there! I hope you had a great weekend! I went back to Gainesville, packed a few more things I couldn’t bring with me last week and hung out with Troy and a few friends. It just so happened to be Halloween, Florida-Georgia, and The Fest weekend all at once, but I had so many things to catch up on that I didn’t really enjoy any of the festivities. I’ve been AWOL, so let me catch you up quickly. Last Sunday, I officially moved into my new place in Altamonte Springs, a city just outside of Orlando. It’s a really ... Read More »

Farmers Market Finds: Tioga Monday Market

Happy Wednesday! The week has hardly started, and I have some exciting news to share with you… but I may just keep you guessing, since today’s focus is on something a little different. This is Part 2 in a series on Gainesville’s many fabulous farmers markets. If you missed it, check out Part 1 on the Union Street Farmers Market. Tioga Monday Market On Monday, I stopped by the Tioga Town Center to visit their Monday Market, which features vegetables, crafts, organic food, fruits and local specialties. This week, it was pretty small, but the growers explained to me that ... Read More »

Farmers Market Finds: Union Street

Good morning! When I got back from the Central Florida Bloggers Conference this weekend, I mentioned that I’d be taking this blog in a new direction soon. One of the speakers at the conference really opened my mind up to new sources for content, and inspired me to focus on some of the amazing local things Gainesville has to offer. Instead of complaining about not having a Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, I want to praise Gainesville for its farmers markets. We have six weekly! We may live in a small country town, but with ample land and resources surrounding ... Read More »

I’m getting the ball rolling a little late on What I Ate Wednesday this week, but better late than never, right? I skipped it last week because I’ve been forgetting to take pictures of my food, but I had some goodies this week, and they’re mostly related to WIAW’s theme of falling into good habits. Spinach, arugula, and green leaf lettuce salad, with avocado, apples, radishes, tomatoes, scallions, and feta cheese. Said salad with stuffed clams and a side of steamed broccoli and carrots topped with Parmesan cheese. Whole wheat couscous with red peppers, topped with Pirate’s Gold shrimp, scallions, ...
