Tomato, Tabata

I’ve been wanting to try Tabata training for a while but always balked at the idea of getting a good workout in only 4 minutes. Yesterday I stumbled upon this Self magazine article about a CrossFit-inspired Tabata style workout and decided to throw caution to the wind and try this format out. Here’s the idea behind Tabata:   20 seconds of high intensity exercise 10 seconds of rest 8 total 30 second “sets” 4 minutes total = 1 round 4 minutes of working out still sounds like tomfoolery to me, so I did five 4-minute rounds. And I was dying by ... Read More »

Workout Plan Planning

I can’t believe we’re a quarter way through December already! I’ve been so busy at work planning strategies and booking clients for the new year that I’ve been inspired to plan a little something for myself as well, in the form of a workout schedule. Tentative of course, since we all know how good I am at sticking to plans. I was working with Whitney last week to come up with a workout plan to reach my goal of 16% body fat safely in 6 months. We can up with a weekly schedule, but I was just having a tough time ... Read More »

Amazing Arms & Back

How sad are you that the Olympics are over? Those two weeks went by so fast, and thanks to Cox promising “full events” on OnDemand and delivering 3-minute highlights of only the American teams, I missed way too much! The only good thing that came from the Olympics ending was the Spice Girls reunion. It amazes me that after over a decade, I could still sing along with every single word. This weekend was super relaxing and laid back, with lots of catching up on sleep and TV show recordings, and an afternoon of crafts. I ran out of workout ... Read More »

My Archenemy, The Pullup

Only one more day till Friday! Sadly, this rain is trying to thwart my weekend plans, and all I wanted to do was find a nice, cool body of water to swim in. I’ve been trying to swim at least once a week, but the pools around here are feeling more and more like bathwater every day. It’s like swimming laps in your own sweat. -.- Swimming is one of the most efficient ways I can think of to get cardio in and improve my upper body strength, especially my shoulders and back. I used to say I didn’t want ... Read More »

Had My Cake And Ate It Too

I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend! Mine is going great so far, but I’m only halfway through Saturday and already thoroughly exhausted. Troy and I had fun at his birthday dinner last night, and did the whole cake and candles thing when we got home. I was racking my brain all day yesterday thinking of a dessert to get and I finally decided on Carvel ice cream cake because who doesn’t love ice cream cake? Doesn’t that look amazing? Well, it was. It brought me back to the days of elementary school and kids’ birthday parties, when we ... Read More »
