I know I’m a day late for this post, but it feels like a case of the Mondays, so that makes it ok, right?
I sort of started my weekend on Thursday, when I was feeling a little restless and decided to get a haircut after work. It’s been so hard for me to commit to a new stylist after having the same person cut my hair in Gainesville for years, plus I experienced a bit of sticker shock after moving to a bigger city. A coworker recommended a new salon, so I took the plunge and booked an appointment with a lady named Ana who sounded like she really new her stuff. And she did!
My fabulous hair took on a life of its own and decided it wanted to go out, so Tabatha and I went for Thursday night football drinks. Since I’m trying to be really strict with my diet, I’ve been sticking to boring bland drinks like vodka, soda water and lime to cut down on the sugar and calories.
On Friday, I drove down to Gainesville right after work, and Troy greeted me with a stunning bouquet of roses. It’s hard being apart for weeks at a time, but we’re making the most of our weekends together.
Saturday morning, we went for a bike ride to Paynes Prairie, which is a beautiful state reserve located between Gainesville and Micanopy where bison, wild horses, alligators and native birds are often spotted.
We didn’t see any unusual animals, but we did get to enjoy the scenery and fresh air on a perfect day. There were hardly any clouds out, and it was a sunny, breezy 70 degrees out for the whole ride.
It was the farthest I’ve ever ridden, and we managed to knock out 9 miles in about 48 minutes. I hardly even broke a sweat, and I can’t wait to take my awesome bike out again for even longer rides.
We worked up an appetite by the time we made it home, so I made my usual big weekend breakfast, complete with a veggie omelet, OJ, and delicious honey crisp apples.
After brunch, we camped out in the living room and enjoyed a relaxing evening of watching movies and catching up on Top Chef and all those other mindless reality shows I’d watch if I had cable.
We were planning on going for another ride on Sunday, but we decided to take it easy and spend some time together before I had to drive back. I made another huge breakfast, french toast with apples and an omelet on the side, and we headed to Ale House to watch some football afterwards.
Abby came out for lunch, and it was awesome to see her since I’ve been missing my girlfriends. We got to catch up, but sadly I had to leave shortly after and make the trek back to Orlando. I really miss all my Gainesville friends and just being able to go out and see people whenever I want, but I guess that means I have the opportunity to make new ones here. It’s bittersweet because I love it here so much, but I’m missing the most important people, and I’d rather have them to enjoy it with than not at all.
Sorry about moping. I’ll move onto better news. I won my fantasy week!!! That means I’m going to the playoffs and I can’t be more excited that I made it this far. GO TEAM!
What’s your advice for dealing with missing friends after a big move? What should I try to stay distracted and keep my mind off things?
I’ve been going to the gym more than I ever have and cooking all my meals, which takes up a lot of time. I’m also blogging more, but I can’t help but feel like I still have all these gaps to fill.
