If you took the Don’t Be A Turkey challenge, congratulations! You made it! I got through the 2 day cleanse with only a teeny bitty bit of cheating. I ate some Wasa crackers with my lunches both days since I’ve been so sick and needed the extra nutrients.
The 2 day cleanse definitely works as promised with helping you feel lighter and more energized. I woke up this morning surprisingly deflated and feeling less bloated and heavy than I have since before Thanksgiving.
For those of you that took the challenge, how did you do? Did it help you feel better after the holiday weekend? Would you do it again? Leave me a comment telling me your thoughts, and I’ll pick one reader to receive a special gift bag of healthy goodies.
Last week, I got my long-awaited package from Vitacost containing my whey protein, cayenne pepper pills, and calcium chews.
I ordered Dymatize Elite Gourmet Vanilla whey protein, which came highly recommended by Whitney. And with good reason, too. It only has 114 calories and 15mg of cholesterol per scoop, which was really important to me. It also only has 50mg of sodium and 2g of carbs, two numbers I try to keep down. With a whopping 24g of protein and 18% of my daily calcium per serving, it was a winner for me. Plus, the container is twice the size of my head!
I was actually surprised at how good it tasted, too, so I highly recommend it. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to look like this, but it’s yummy so I won’t question it.
If you’re interested in trying it, Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $49 (which this qualifies for). (Thanks for supporting my healthy habits!)
The cayenne pepper tablets and the calcium pills also came at Whitney’s suggestion (my new fitness guru), but they seemed like a logical choice for me. I don’t eat or drink a lot of dairy, so getting extra calcium is very important, and these chews taste amazing!
The cayenne pepper helps with circulation before a workout, and since I can’t take anything with caffeine for energy, this is a perfect pick-me-up.
I actually took the cayenne pepper pills when I felt the cold coming on because I figured it would help warm me up from the inside and sweat it out. I don’t think it did anything, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt.
I’ve also been hooked on these little Hawaii Coconut Energy mix-ins that I received from Amazon a while back. They’re full of potassium, low in calories, and have 100% of your Vitamin C. I started drinking them when the sniffles set in, and they taste a thousand times better than Emergen-C.
Aside from all the supplements, I bought a few other things yesterday to help me get through this cold.
I got some zinc, which always seems to speed up the cold, and makes the symptoms kick in quicker, but pass twice as fast. And I got some echinacea, which I heard is a great way to minimize the symptoms and get over a cold faster. At this point, I’ll take all the [natural] help I can get.
Last but not least, I want to share a yummy smoothie recipe I discovered from doing the cleanse the last few days. I didn’t like the consistency, lack of protein, and taste of the recommended recipe, so I modified it a bit this morning:
- 1 cup berries (I used 3/4 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup cranberries)
- 1 cup almond milk (I used Almond Breeze coconut almond milk)
- 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein
- 1 tsp peanut or almond butter
- ice to fill
Makes for a much tastier, frothier purple drank!
I’m wondering…
What supplements and vitamins do you take, if any? What purpose do they serve?
Have you tried a 2-day cleanse
